2012-2013 Club Descriptions

Middle School

Soccer Player

1. Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Athletic lunch serves as a time for athlete’s to come together eat, fellowship, and be challenged in the Word. Team members playing in a current season sport will meet together for the Athletic Lunch once a week. Both middle school and high school teams will have an Athletic Lunch day.
2. Geography Club - Grades 4-8 - Geography Club attempts to spark student interest in the subject of geography.  Club meetings provide a fun and challenging way to learn about geography. Students learn about our world and prepare for the National and ACSI Geography Bee’s.
3. Math Mania - Grades 6-8 - Math Mania enhances learning, builds confidence and solidifies concepts students are learning in the classroom. Students work together with the teacher to solve current math problems.
4. Middle School Art Club - The middle school art club gives the middle school students the opportunity to be involved with art throughout the school year. The club will educate them in critical and analytical thought as well as technological skills to become visual communicators. The middle school art club will meet once a week during lunch.
5. Robotics Club - Grades 6-12 - The "CyberKnights" robotics team exposes and cultivates practical science, math and engineering talents among youth -- in some cases, exposing middle and high school students to skills most usually don't see until college.  Competing as a U.S. FIRST Lego League team, the CyberKnights are the pioneer FLL team in Charles County, earning state and regional victories in autonomous LEGO NXT robotics and science project competition while engaging community outreach through CSM and UMBC robotics events.  Maturing this endeavor through high school has seen the team acquire and start learning a new FTC 'Tetrix' robotics kit.  U.S. FIRST offers extensive scholarship opportunities through its FTC robotics competitions.
6. Spelling Bee Club - Grades 6-8 - Students in the spelling bee club will learn about word origins, prefixes, suffixes along with tips and tricks for competing in a Spelling Bee. Students will also practice techniques and spelling words to prepare for the local county spelling bee competition.
7. Seventh Grade Girls Bible Study - This Bible study meets once a week to study God’s word and how it relates to who we are in Christ.
8. Middle School Student Council - The purpose of the Student Council is to provide leadership for the Middle School Student Government Association. The student council leadership team, together with the sponsors, will meet once a week to develop leadership skills, propose ideas, and develop the agenda for the weekly MS-SGA club meeting.
9. Middle School Student Government Association - The Middle School SGA serves as the representative voice of the views, ideas and concerns of the student population in grades six through eight. The organization also serves to improve student participation in school activities and to promote school spirit and morale. Members in the SGA are led by the Student Council and adult leaders.
10. National Junior Honor Society - Membership in NJHS is for sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students, who demonstrate outstanding performance in the areas of academics, leadership, service and character. Members are selected by a team of faculty and administrators. During the year students will work on the qualities of leadership, service, character and citizenship. NJHS will hold a service project each year for the school.

High School Clubs

1. Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Athletic lunch serves as a time for athletes to come together to eat, fellowship, and be challenged in the Word. 2. Chapel Band - Chapel band students prepare music for chapel and set up and rehearse for chapel services. Member responsibilities each week are to set up equipment, lead music during chapel and break down the sound system. Chapel band meets approximately three days a week during lunch or before school.

Art Student

3. High School Art Club - This after school club provides students opportunities to serve others as well as the opportunity to be involved in community art projects. This club will help the students develop technological skills so they can become strong visual communicators. 
4. High School Girls Support Group and Bible Study - A safe place for high school girls to receive support and biblical instruction to help with challenges and struggles from their past and present. This club will encourage the girls in having a closer walk with the Lord. The club will meet once a week during lunch.
5. 6. High School Student Government Association - The Student Government Association (SGA) exists for the purpose of, first to glorify God while leading the school with Christ-like examples. The SGA will develop leadership skills in students and promote positive extra-curricular activity programs. The SGA will organize events and projects throughout the year that will foster school spirit, improve student participation and support school service projects. The SGA will work closely with the faculty and administration planning activities designed to give students the opportunity to be servants for God's glory.
7. Student Government Association Officers Meeting - This SGA leadership team meets once a week during lunch to develop leadership skills. The team proposes ideas, and develops the agenda for the weekly SGA meeting.
8. High School Class Officers Lunch - The class leadership team meets once a week to develop leadership skills, proposes ideas, and develops the agenda for class meetings.
9. Varsity Club - Consists of Varsity Sports players taking ownership of the sports program. Under the direction of the athletic director, the Varsity Club will be responsible for the care of areas in the athletic department. These responsibilities will include the following:

  1. Write announcements as needed
  2. Report scores to the newspapers and radio stations
  3. Help set-up and tear down for sporting events
  4. Make sure the snack bar is set up with volunteers to help
  5. Assist with middle school games (scoreboard, lines etc.)
  6. Lead devotions during Athletic Lunch

10. National Honor Society – Membership in NHS is for sophomores, juniors   and seniors who have attended GCA for one semester, who demonstrate outstanding performance in the areas of academics, leadership, service and character, and must be selected by a team of faculty and administrators. NHS holds a yearly service project that supports the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by conducting a “Pennies for Patients” drive.
11. Writing Club - GCA’s Writing Club will help students polish their writing skills, so they can present their thoughts in a professional manner.
12. International Student Awareness Association (Grades 9-12)
The International Student Awareness Association is a club comprised of the International Student Body of Grace Christian Academy of Maryland. The club will meet one day per week to express concerns, share ideas and support, and to provide international awareness using activities and visual presentations. The club is open to all high school international students attending GCA.
13. Eleventh Grade Boys Bible Study - This Bible study meets once a week to study God's Word. Members will pray for each other, build and encourage one another up in the Lord and share what Christ is doing in their walk.
